In an interview with *Live Well* magazine, Dr. Liang Guo, ENT Consultant and Medical Director of Aglow ENT Clinic under Beyond Medical Group, pointed out that a cold usually heals within a week. However, if nasal congestion, thick nasal discharge, facial pain, or loss of smell persists for more than 10 days, or if symptoms recur, chronic sinusitis should be considered.

Dr. Guo explained that chronic sinusitis differs from common infections. In addition to nasal discomfort, it may also cause fatigue, poor sleep quality, and difficulty concentrating (brain fog).
Dr. Guo cautioned that persistent sinus problems should not be ignored, as they not only affect the respiratory system but may also impact hearing and balance.
The doctor further explained that the sinuses are connected to the ear via the Eustachian tube, which is responsible for balancing middle ear pressure. If the sinuses are chronically inflamed, the Eustachian tube may become blocked, leading to ear fullness, hearing loss, or frequent ear infections.
Some patients may experience fluid buildup or pressure imbalance, which can even affect balance, causing dizziness or a feeling of heaviness in the head.
