Hurricane Melissa ravaged the Caribbean, causing 33 deaths and nearly $8 billion (approximately S$10.4 billion) in damage across Jamaica, Haiti, and Cuba. The U.S. National Hurricane Center reported that as of 5:00 AM New York time on Thursday (October 30th) (5:00 PM Singapore time), Melissa's maximum sustained winds reached 155 kilometers per hour.
