(Paris) A car rammed into pedestrians in a coastal tourist area in western France, injuring 10 people. The man responsible has been arrested and has a criminal record.

The incident occurred on Wednesday (November 5) on the Île Oleron in the Charente department on the French Atlantic coast. The 10 injured included pedestrians and cyclists, some seriously injured.

French media reported that the suspect deliberately rammed into pedestrians and then got out of his car and attempted to set it on fire before being subdued by police.

Prosecutor Larez said the 35-year-old man shouted "God is great" when arrested. However, his motive remains unclear, and he is currently under investigation for attempted murder.

Authorities stated that the suspect is a resident of the city of Oleron in Tullouse and has a criminal record for drunk driving, drug offenses, and theft. Investigators have not ruled out the possibility of mental illness, but have not yet placed him on a watch list for radicals.
