Dozens of Amazonian indigenous people gathered outside the UN climate conference in Belém, Brazil, on Tuesday (November 11) to protest, attempting to storm the venue and clashing with security personnel. At least two people sustained minor injuries. The demonstrators demanded the protection of their land from encroachment by agricultural, oil, and mineral exploration activities. They told the media that the voices of indigenous people have long been ignored, and their attempt to enter the venue was to reflect the ongoing exploitation of natural resources in their ancestral homeland, eroding their habitat, and that the ecological environment continues to suffer damage after the climate conference's fanfare.
