With the release of another batch of Epstein documents, US President Trump has turned his legal attention to former President Bill Clinton.
President Trump announced on Friday that he has ordered the Justice Department to investigate the relationship between former President Bill Clinton and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
This decision comes after a new batch of Epstein emails were released, including those involving Trump himself.
“All the arrows are pointing at the Democrats,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
I. Investigation Order
President Trump announced early Friday morning via Truth Social that he has ordered Attorney General Pam Bondi and the Justice Department to cooperate with the FBI in investigating the relationship between Epstein and Bill Clinton, among others.
“The Democrats are now using the Epstein hoax to try to distract people from their disastrous government shutdown and all their other failures,” Trump wrote.
He specifically named Bill Clinton, former Treasury Secretary Larry Summers, Reid Hoffman, JPMorgan Chase, and other individuals and organizations as targets of the investigation.
Attorney General Bondi responded swiftly,
and appointed New York Attorney General Jay Clayton to lead the investigation.
II. Email Content
The newly released Epstein emails. In a March 2018 email, Epstein's brother Mark wrote, "Ask him if Putin has any photos of Trump blowing 'Babba'?"
"Babba" was Clinton's well-known nickname during his time in Arkansas, immediately sparking online speculation about a relationship between Trump and Clinton.
In a 2019 email, Epstein wrote that Trump "knew those girls."
These emails put both Trump and Clinton in jeopardy.
Trump had previously expressed his displeasure with the Epstein issue on multiple occasions. On Thursday, he accused Democrats of trying to revive the "Jeffrey Epstein hoax" to divert attention from the government shutdown.
III. Trump, Clinton, and Epstein's Relationship
Trump's relationship with Epstein dates back to the 1980s when the two were neighbors in Palm Beach, Florida.
In November 1992, Trump hosted a party at Mar-a-Lago and invited NBC to film it. The footage shows the two conversing happily and enjoying the presence of NBL cheerleaders.
Epstein attended Trump's 1993 wedding to Marla Maples, and between 1993 and 1997, Trump traveled on Epstein's private jet seven times.
Clinton also had a close relationship with Epstein. Reports indicate that Clinton traveled on Epstein's private jet multiple times, although Epstein claimed in emails that Clinton "never" visited his infamous Caribbean private island.
IV. A Classic Strategy to Divert Attention
Analysts believe that the timing of Trump's announcement of the investigation into Clinton was not coincidental. This decision came shortly after he ended his struggle with the Democratic government shutdown. This is a typical tactic of Trump to divert public attention.
