(Jerusalem) The United Nations Security Council will vote on a draft resolution on Gaza supported by the United States. Israel reiterated its opposition to Palestinian statehood and the need for Hamas disarmament ahead of the vote.

The Security Council is scheduled to vote on the US-drafted draft resolution on Gaza at 5:00 PM Eastern Time on Monday (November 17) (6:00 AM Singapore Time on November 18). This move aims to promote the implementation of US President Trump's Gaza peace plan.

Israel and Hamas reached a ceasefire agreement in October based on Trump's peace plan, and subsequently released prisoners as required by the first phase of the agreement. Now, all parties are turning their attention to the more challenging second phase, with key issues including Hamas disarmament and the withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza.

The draft resolution submitted for voting involves authorizing the establishment of an international stabilization force and transitional governing body in Gaza.

Unlike previous versions, this draft resolution mentions that Palestinian statehood is possible if the Palestinian National Authority undertakes reforms.

This content has drawn opposition from Israel's far-right leaders, who have pressured Prime Minister Netanyahu. Netanyahu stated at a cabinet meeting on Sunday (16th), "Our position against the establishment of a Palestinian state on any territory has never changed. Gaza will be demilitarized, and Hamas will be disarmed, whether through moderate or hardline means."

Qatar, Egypt, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Pakistan, Jordan, and Turkey have signed a joint statement supporting the US-drafted resolution. Russia, however, argues that the US document is insufficient in its support for a Palestinian state. Russia's draft text calls for the Security Council to express a "firm commitment to the vision of a two-state solution."

Despite this, experts believe the US draft resolution is still expected to be adopted.
