November 11th - ClutchPoints updated its status today, discussing the Dallas Mavericks' situation:
The Mavericks have had a dismal start to the season.
Even after the incredible Luka Doncic-Anthony Davis trade, no one expected such a difficult start.
Besides being plagued by injuries, their shooting percentage is abysmal.
Seven players on the team are shooting below 30% from three-point range (at least 10 attempts).
Some players have seen particularly dramatic declines compared to last season:
PJ Washington - 38.1% vs. 27.5% Three-point percentage
Klay Thompson - 39.1% vs. 26.4% Three-point percentage
Brandon Williams - 40.0% vs. 18.8% Three-point percentage
Of course, the season is still early, and the stats should stabilize eventually.
But the Mavericks' decision to start rookie forward Cooper Flagg was a gamble.
That gamble ultimately failed.
Doncic is not only a scoring machine, but he can also create excellent offensive opportunities for his teammates.
This is precisely the quality the Mavericks desperately need right now.
