However, these plans changed the following afternoon—just hours before tip-off against the Wizards, according to team sources, Mavericks owner Patrick Dumon intervened at the last minute, halting Davis's return. Dumon's action was based on the advice of Mavericks' Director of Health and Fitness, John Bealsboro. Bealsboro warned at the last minute that Davis risked aggravating his calf injury or developing a related serious injury. This marks the first time Dumon has been directly involved in the team's day-to-day basketball operations since acquiring a majority stake in the team in December 2023. It is also the most public and direct indication—that his previous trust in Harrison has completely crumbled.
