November 25th - According to a report in the Sports Business Journal, the Netflix documentary series *The Starting Five* will be put on hold after two seasons.
*The Starting Five* follows five NBA players throughout their seasons.
Although two of the main characters (Tyrese Haliburton and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander) reached the NBA Finals in Game 7 in the second season,
the ratings were still insufficient to keep the show going.
Other players in the second season include Kevin Durant, James Harden, and Jaylen Brown; the first season included LeBron James, Domantas Sabonis, Jimmy Butler, Anthony Edwards, and Jayson Tatum.
The first batch of internal data for the second season won't be released until early 2026, but as Entertainment Strategy Guy points out, various third-party data are not optimistic for the series. Netflix's internal data from the second half of 2024 showed that the first season of the show significantly lagged behind the NFL documentary "Quarterback," and this trend is likely to continue in the second season of both shows in the second half of this year.
