October 19th: ESPN reporters Tim Bontemps and Brian Windhorst recently wrote about the latest information on various NBA teams heading into the new season.
Among them, the reporters discussed the Heat's current and future roster plans.
Brian Windhorst: Tyler Herro, fresh off an All-Star season, is indeed interested in a contract extension with the Heat, but sources have revealed that the two sides have not yet engaged in substantive negotiations, and the likelihood of a deal being reached is slim. Based solely on player value, Herro should be the Heat's top priority for a contract extension, and he witnessed former All-Star Bam Adebayo sign a massive extension last year. However, a contract extension doesn't appear to be on the horizon.
Furthermore, two other potential extension candidates—recent signings Norman Powell and Andrew Wiggins—also have little hope of signing long-term contracts with the Heat. The Clippers traded Powell to the Heat in part to avoid the difficulty of a contract extension, and even if a deal is reached, it would likely be a short-term deal. Wiggins holds a $30 million player option for the 2026-27 season. The Heat may try to negotiate to adjust the contract amount, but they may not take action.
