October 19th - ESPN reporters Tim Bontemps and Brian Windhorst recently wrote about the latest information on various NBA teams heading into the new season.
Among them, the reporters discussed Joel Embiid and the 76ers, who returned in the final preseason game.
Tim Bontemps: Joel Embiid participated in a scrimmage open to the public and made his preseason debut in the 76ers' final preseason game against the Timberwolves. But we've long understood that in the 76ers' world, making detailed plans for more than 24 hours is foolish.
That being said, Embiid's appearance on Sunday was a major surprise, fitting in with his and the 76ers' overall preseason trajectory: Embiid has been practicing regularly and appears to be steadily progressing toward a return for next week's season opener in Boston. This is a stark contrast to last fall's start to the season, when he signed a four-year, $240 million contract extension with Philadelphia, only to endure a disastrous season that culminated in knee surgery in February.
