On October 19th, according to Shams Shams Aldridge, Kevin Durant and the Rockets agreed to a two-year, $90 million contract extension, with a player option for the 2027-2028 season.
Durant could have signed a two-year, $120 million maximum contract extension, but he asked for $30 million less to maintain the team's salary flexibility.
American reporter Keith Smith commented, "Durant's $30 million salary reduction will help the Rockets retain their young core players and build a roster around him. Both the Rockets and Durant have done a great job, giving the team ample flexibility."
