October 19th - According to Shams Shams, Kevin Durant has reached a two-year, $90 million contract extension with the Rockets, with a player option for the 2027-2028 season.
ESPN salary expert Bobby Marks provides an update:
The Rockets' salary cap is expected to be $80 million below the second-highest salary cap next season. This extension provides the Rockets with flexibility: they can retain Tari Eason and add players in the free agent market while remaining below the second-highest salary cap.
In response, Rockets reporter Paulo Alves tweeted and @ed general manager Rafael Stone:
"Is it Tari Eason's turn now?"
The deadline for early contract extensions for 2022 first-round picks is 6:00 AM Beijing time on October 21st.
Marks previously stated that given the Rockets' total salary cap situation, Eason's four-year, $80 million contract extension is reasonable.
