On October 19th, according to Shams Shams, Kevin Durant and the Rockets have reached a two-year, $90 million contract extension, with a player option for the 2027-2028 season.
Durant could have signed a two-year, $120 million maximum contract extension, but he asked for $30 million less to maintain the team's salary flexibility.
Later, Rockets reporter Bradeaux discussed Durant's salary reduction, saying, "It's a common phenomenon with this Rockets organization: players are accepting salary cuts to join or stay with the Rockets."
"It's a recognition of the culture they're building. They're a very special group."
