October 21st - Today, The Ringer reporter Yaron Weitzman published a lengthy article detailing the conflict between Russell Westbrook and LeBron James during their time with the Lakers.
The article details the numerous reasons why Westbrook grew weary of LeBron's "fake" behavior during his time with the Lakers:
• LeBron secretly pushed for a reunion with Kyrie Irving—a move that would have required trading Westbrook, despite his public denials;
• LeBron often said in interviews, "Let Westbrook be himself," but privately didn't truly support him;
• During a Will Smith team presentation, LeBron and Davis abruptly left the venue before Will Smith arrived. When they returned a few minutes later, they were overly enthusiastic—LeBron dominated the conversation, constantly asking questions and quoting movie lines.
• Westbrook watched the entire situation in disbelief, later confessing to his teammates, "I hate this fakery. I just can't do it."
• Westbrook observed LeBron repeatedly creating a false image: claiming "The Godfather" was his favorite movie but unable to memorize the lines, bringing "The Autobiography of Malcolm X" to an interview but unable to discuss its content, and even claiming to have foreseen Kobe Bryant's 81-point night. These moments convinced Westbrook that LeBron was being hypocritical.
Fullcourtpass, NBACentral, and other media outlets have already reposted the report.
