On October 23rd, renowned journalist Brian Windhorst discussed Wendell's height during a TV program:
"I met Wendell's youth coach in Paris. He told me he'd been suggesting he use his height to play more inside, but Wendell didn't want to listen. He wanted to be a tall player with guard skills. Wendell doesn't like people talking about his height. The Spurs recently updated his height to 7.5 feet (2.28 meters), but he had some issues with it. The Spurs have since lowered it to 7.4 feet (2.25 meters). We all know he's actually taller than 7.5 feet. "
"Wenban Yama wants to be a great player. He wants to be a tall guard. Last season, he averaged nearly nine three-pointers per game and shot a decent 35.2%, but that wasn't the level he could have been. This season, Wenban Yama has completely transformed, as evidenced by the fact that he averaged 75% of his shots from the restricted area in the preseason (compared to 40% in the regular season last season). He also attempted fewer than five three-pointers in just one game last season, and yesterday he took only two. Wenban Yama is stronger and more skilled this season, and he's going to be a real problem for other teams in the league."
