On October 23rd, on the basketball show "Run It Back," former NBA player Louis Williams commented on Wemban-Yama's performance against the Mavericks:
"We were witnessing an MVP and Defensive Player of the Year. Wemban-Yama's dominance dwarfed Anthony Davis and made Lavery struggle defensively. Wemban-Yama's opening game performance was more like something out of an anime or video game."
Victor Wemban-Yama finished with 40 points on 15-of-21 shooting against the Mavericks, along with 15 rebounds, 1 assist, and 3 blocks.
Drake Lavery played 10 minutes and had 4 points, 2 rebounds, and 3 assists.
