On October 26th, the Nuggets defeated the Suns 133-111 in the NBA regular season. After the game, Payton Watson spoke about not signing an early contract extension with the Nuggets (he will be a restricted free agent next summer).
Watson said, "From what I understand, the team's decision was simply a financial business decision. Obviously, given the new collective bargaining agreement and the second-tier player, they wanted to avoid hitting those limits. As a business, you have to operate in the best interests of the business. And when I have to make a decision next summer, I'll have to weigh the pros and cons like a business."
"This is in no way disrespectful to the Nuggets or the Kroenke family. They've shown me so much love and hospitality, done so much for me, and given me the opportunity to prove myself in this league. So I think everything will fall into place."
In this game, Watson played 19 minutes and 49 seconds, shooting 3-for-4 from the field and 1-for-1 from the free throw line for 7 points, 2 rebounds, and 1 assist.
