Hideo Nomo Throws the First Pitch in Game 4 of the World Series. At the opening ceremony today, former Japanese pitching legend Hideo Nomo made a grand appearance, throwing the symbolic first pitch.
Wearing a classic Los Angeles Dodgers jersey and standing on his familiar mound, Nomo smiled and waved to the surrounding crowd.
Hideo Nomo was the first Japanese pitcher to achieve success in the Major Leagues and is considered a pioneer in "opening the door for Japanese players in MLB." He joined the Dodgers in 1995, and with his unique pitching motion and powerful sinker, he won the National League Rookie of the Year award that year, and also pitched two no-hitters.
